I’m an academic who uses AI daily, and I’m shocked how many colleagues still treat it as something to prevent in class. We were slow with PCs and the early internet too. Instead of blocking students from AI, we should be teaching it—starting with faculty.

When I was 12 I wrote my first poem. It started, “Parsley is but a glimmer in the distanced light from the sky.”
Seems stupid now. But I learned two things: none of my peers were writing anything—and it’s important to forgive yourself for being stupid. Growth emerges in reflection.

Here in Tennessee, we use what’s literally called “hostile architecture” — metal bars and wooden blocks on benches — to keep homeless people from even laying down.
Not to reduce suffering, but to reduce how much the rest of us have to see it.
Same problem. Opposite values.
