Happy 22nd Birthday CSS Zen Garden!

In May 2003 the Canadian web designer Dave Shea launched a community gallery of websites called CSS Zen Garden.

OC time! This ‘goth girl’ was a quick poorly done Sunday doodle made while my finger healed from cutting it at work and searching for bolero jackets as a reference. (You don’t see that wonky arm and hand.) Refined it later that evening to make her a living doll and we’ll see how it goes from there

A few days ago, I went through my 170+ tabs and closed all of them, some of which I had open for months. Subsequently, I installed a plugin which disables the use of tabs entirely (forcing them to open in a new window). It's been way easier to not use tabs than I expected, and it's very liberating.

Been in the fooking lab with art lately. Been working on trying to achieve a more-consistent figure drawing process. I think consistency is my biggest struggle with art, both in terms of skill/process and content/genre goals. I don't want to ignore it any longer, I want to push through.

I've been having fun playing Rabi-Ribi. The rank system on bosses is cool. I like how advancing in rank during the fight gives you an attack buff, encouraging you to try and get it up and keep it there. It rewards you for doing well, which allows you to do even better, which is a system I like.

Still losing my mind over the last couple episodes of Thunderbolt Fantasy. What an amazing show.

Normally I have no desire to automate away any part of the artistic process, but for me, processing scanned images falls into the category of "non-artistic tedium." Therefore, I wrote a PHP script to take care of all that. Programming has been unexpectedly useful in the context of drawing.

It's crazy to me how much less distracting Bluesky is compared to Twatter. The fact I can just scroll through a bit and come to the end of new posts is really nice. The lack of algorithm and in-your-face BS makes it 1,000% better without any other additional features (or lack thereof, in this case).

Dozing

A long hike uphill
Aspens dancing above
Golden leaves hissing
She slows her pace
Sets the old pack down
Spreads a blanket
And retrieves an old canvas
Watercolors as we rest
I'm lost in flickering sunshine
Breathing cool air
Twenty years younger
Letting the wind carry me
