I think that was the excuse used most often at the Nuremberg trials in 1945-46. It didn't work, except if they knew about rockets, nuclear physics, how to gain secrets through torture, or anything else useful to the USA.

Things that change, move, flicker, and mutate are what make the universe interesting and meaningful. A rock sitting unchanged for thousands of years is nothing compared to a butterfly that was a grub a few days ago and is now a beautiful creature wafting in the breeze for a day or two. Like us.
