Most of the 90s was spent watching ian wright going very much “super nova” and we were miles away from winning the league. Sharing lots of goals around can win a league . Having a useless centre forward that doesn’t contribute anything can’t.

To some extent this is true but we’ve come very close to winning the league without a player like that . Likewise 20/21 Gündoğa scored 13 goals and was their top scorer .

Clearly prem league clubs struggle with predicting how well players from other leagues will adapt to the prem. Isak surprised everyone at Newcastle , Gyokeres, Sesko ,Wirtz surprised in a different way. Gyokeres felt like a fairly safe bet from a distance . Close up he’s Lee Chapman 1982.

I was silent-screaming at the telly to take our “rubber shark suited” Viking off and play Noni through the middle yesterday. It’s an experiment I’d like them to try.

Could be but Sesko is also part of that very shallow pool of quality forwards , and he’s not impressed either so far. There’s a theory that the global Pep effect on football over 20 years has led to a surplus of midfielders and a lack of centre forwards .

Ironic now given Haarland

Apart from the two strikers that Liverpool bought (there’s no evidence that they’d have chosen us) the centre forward market was pretty barren. The availability dictated who we could buy.

Currently , in this league ,there is a big doubt about that.

The modern football fan reacts to a draw like it’s a loss and a loss like it’s a collapse.

FUCKING CHRIST

From front to back

Fucking weird game of football
December 13, 2025 at 9:39 PM
Wow

He stays on . Arteta clearly trying to play him into form/confidence.

Poor decision
December 13, 2025 at 9:19 PM
It’s obviously a Noni and Jesus moment
December 13, 2025 at 9:10 PM
There’s no point in having wide players who can penetrate if you have a useless lump in the middle who’s unable to get into position /finish.

It’s not deep
December 13, 2025 at 9:04 PM
We’ve passed the point of trying to play him into form or for him to learn our style of play. Sticking with him is starting to feel like mismanagement . Anyway , with this match I’d get Noni on and Odegard and maybe Jesus . Just squeeze them all in there because wolves aren’t a threat
December 13, 2025 at 8:55 PM
Might be a good idea to get some faster more tricksy forwards on 2nd half.
December 13, 2025 at 8:48 PM
It’s been absolutely clear from the first game he played for us. His touch is heavy, his movement predictable and unimaginative . It’s a shame but these things arent going to improve at his age , regardless of us wishing they would.
December 13, 2025 at 8:44 PM
Thanks for that Debra i’ll check them out
December 13, 2025 at 6:44 PM
Do you remember when Arsenal signed Lee Chapman ? Was many years ago , 1982 perhaps . He arrived as a high profile signing , tall ,strong ,handsome ,blond.
Played like a lost man-child and was sold the next season . Gyokeres is responsible for these flashbacks .

Yes but…

She left me when my drinking
Became a proper stinging
The devil came and took me
From bar to street to bookie
