Senate Dems giving up their CR leverage? They have no leverage during the next part- reconciliation-other than to hope they can pull the Republicans back from the brink. Schumer is making a HUGE mistake. The Rs don't have the votes. This is going to cost the Dems. Show some leadership and fight.

This is the right take.
Why are we even talking about this in terms of Democrats voting for a shutdown? Democrats are asking for political concessions. Republicans are absolutely intransigent and unwilling to compromise. THAT is why a shutdown would happen. THAT should be the story.

Reminder: executive orders (EOs) cannot override statutes or the Constitution. Don't let the show of his EOs, so many of which are illegal or violations of the Constitution, make you think he can rule like a king. He can't. He wants to intimidate people from bringing cases. It's not going to work.

I don't think we should cheer that MAGA voters are getting fired by DOGE or hurt in other ways. Instead, we should try to make them allies in this crusade. We need as many allies against fascism as we can get. It may not work, but sometimes, people need to experience the worst to see the light.
