People most of the time mean "California" when they talk about "USA". As far as the actual political entity "United States of America" is concerned its power has been eroding for a long time, it was just masked by the strength of "Californication". Trump might finally completely undo it.

Most of them seem to think that calling their representative will surely get them through this crisis. And the polling for the midterms looks really good! Deeply unserious people. "It cannot happen here".

The final result will be a massive new weapons package and a commitment by European countries to peacekeeping forces in Ukraine. In other words another triumph for Putin. What people fail to realize is that when Trump meets Putin he is actually not the stupidest person in the room...

Oh it's almost certainly the outcome. His Orangeness will drop a lot of word salad that his underlings will somehow try to implement to appease the dear leader. But as soon as he realizes that this peace thingie is actually pretty hard work he will move on to the next thing to avoid looking foolish.

Trans Atlanticism was more like an elite project anyhow, especially in recent years. I think this shock is more useful to realign the worldview of any center right elites who might still have stuck to nostalgic pro US feelings.

These troops are badly needed back home. After all the new regime has very few boots on the ground for enforcement so far. After a few rounds of purges of the officer corps the army will be ready to take on the rebellious states. My personal prediction is they will make an example of Illinois first.
