Maybe I’m turning into a miserable old git…..

I’d agree. Some time ago we went to a recording with Tim Brooke Taylor, Graham Garden, Barry Cryer, Linda Smith and Humphrey Littleton . It was brilliant.

Perhaps it’s just me then……

My first was breech so she didn’t look all squashed at all. But she was quite small so definitely not like WChurchill.

They all look like Winston Churchill

I didn’t know that - what a lovely tradition- a pity it’s in abeyance

Yes - it seems society was more progressive 30 - 40 years ago. What went wrong??
November 22, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Thats sad.
November 22, 2025 at 9:06 PM
I didn’t know that- I wonder what happened in the 30s to change things?
November 22, 2025 at 8:19 PM
Many of the younger generation seem to have reverted to old traditional ways which as a feminist I find depressing. But each to their own etc

Yes I believe former MP Harriet Harman’s daughters have her surname and sons have that of her husband
November 22, 2025 at 7:30 PM
I like that. I’ve noticed recently in my home village in Oxfordshire several recent graves where a woman’s maiden name is mentioned as well as that of her husband
November 22, 2025 at 7:28 PM
I’ve never heard of it being the law but I wouldn’t be surprised. I’ve never used my husband’s name & when we were married- 40+ yrs ago - I spent a lot of time explaining to people there was no legal requirement to do so ( not these days, anyway)

Our daughters have both our surnames, mine and his
November 22, 2025 at 7:22 PM
When we visited my husband’s grandfather’s home St Monance in Fife - I was interested to note in the Kirk yard that women had their maiden names in their grave stones. As a feminist I liked this #thearchers
