The main message from this is that third party fact checking is being discontinued by Meta in the US. Which leads the way for mass misinformation: political and social. Self-serving engineering of "truth" by the world's richest must stop.

Absolutely correct. Political power should not be a case of "richest man wins". It seems so bloody obvious. It's irrelevant to look backwards for the "why" - how the hell do we, going forward, eliminate non elected rich kids from the serious business of running the world.
