tiny house - big garden 🏡 slow living offgrid 🍉 gardening 🌱 sewing 🧵 baking 🥖 solarpunk 🔆

Living as a hermit on a hill is nice, but community building is better 💚
HOT TIP: when boycotting, try dupe recipes at home to share with friends. Sometimes there's no local alternative but there's always a recipe blog on the internet. Now i can have doublestuffed mint chocolate sandwich cookies without funding the capitalist machine crushing my American friends ☺️

🌱 summer snacks 🫐
I never got around to netting my blueberries this year. The birds have finally spared me a few big handfuls.

🌱 I'm curious why my cosmos haven't been thriving the last couple years but my pumpkins and kale have been making up for it. I know it's only summer but I'm soooo ready for autumn and early winter so I can get started on improvements for next growing season. #gardening

🌱 Tūī have been loving our Pōhutukawa and I got rain for Christmas. It feels strange this year, like the calm before a storm. Take care of yourselves, hug your neighbours, and build more connected, more resilient communities with me in 2025. Meri Kirihimete e te whānau 🎄

🌱 Our Pōhutukawa dressed up for summer Christmas and the solstice 🌞 I love how she does some of her own decorating with the beautiful red flowers. I hung some felt ornaments I made of some of my favourite native birds in between. Almost time to open Christmas gifts with breakfast in the garden 🌻🐝

🌱 Summer Garden ☀️ everything is growing, especially our duck, Sunny Bread Roll! While I water, she nibbles on the silverbeet and kale. I've laid a 10cm thick layer of grass clippings onto my beds to lock in moisture. I need to get some drip lines or soaker hoses in to minimise water loss. #solarpunk

🌱 just a quick a dirty phone picture of my veggie patch 👩🏼‍🌾 it's been so dry but I've gotten my hands on some grass clippings so I've been watering my plants deeply then putting a thick layer of the grass ontop of the mulch. It should help reflect sunlight and lock in moisture 🤞so far so good!

🌱 thinking of turning my raised stone garden beds into wicking beds this winter. Anyone have any suggestions for what to line them with? Should I just mortar the stone? We are getting dryer Summers each year. I need to focus on water conservation and resilience before I have a desert 🏜 #diy

🌻 Summer Christmas 🎄 I don’t see enough examples of summer Christmas decor that isn't just brighter coloured winter-centric stuff. Here is ny contribution: reusable felt Pohutukawa garland and dried summer grass garlands 🌾 we need to celebrate ours seasons, not consumption 🌱 #Christmas #solarpunk

🌱 Progress is Progress looking like another dry summer which isn't ideal but we'll make do. I have plans to convert my raised rock beds to wicking beds with a liner this fall. The tomatoes are thriving in their bucket water retention system and our new family member Sunny Bread Roll has settled in.

🌱 finger limes, a few tomatoes, curry trees, inga bean and white sapote. Plants are just so neat! I would have a botanical garden sized glass house collection if I could find enough materials. How tall do mangos get 🤔 #gardening

🌱 A very meager garlic harvest so far. I left most in the ground to go another year as they are so small I doubt they'll even flower. To be fair, most the garlic were from "seed"(bulbils) and not cloves so I need to cut them some slack. I made the basket from Jasmine vines #gardening #offgridliving

🌱 late spring in the garden 👩🏼‍🌾 I love this time of year because I still have some water so the garden looks so lush and healthy. I have 20 more tomatoes to pot up today and a spot to flatten for a glass house #gardening #offgrid

🌱 willow fencing, functional, fashionable, and free! Our ridge is very windy so I needed to establish some windbreaks for my garden. I got some willow cuttings from the river and have been weaving them into a lattice fence. I think this will be the year I get to weave the top edge! #gardening #diy

🌱 my tunnel house made from 2nd hand plastic I got from the side of the road, old vineyard netting, old fence posts, and polypiping we found in the forest. She's an upcycling masterpiece ✨️ I am a little gardening garbage gremlin 👩🏼‍🌾 #gardening #diy #solarpunk

Cabbage, radish flowers, favabeans, and white clover. I've started making spots for the summer veggies to go in as the spring crop finishes up 🌱

After a long day of gardening, I like to lay down in my garden themed bed 👩🏼‍🌾 i made these wee sunflower pillows out of scraps i got at the dump and buttons I made from clay to look like sunflower seeds. 🌻 #sewing #diy #gardening #upcycling

🌱 dry garden flowers and my garden slug control battalion 🦆okay bluesky, give me all your water conservation and irrigation tips! We're offgrid and rely on rainwater but with the summers getting drier, I want to make more garden more resilient.

🌱 just some snaps of ny garden 👩🏼‍🌾 I've added a whole new veggie patch since last summer so I can't wait to share once it's in full bloom.

I want to connect with more people living off-grid but in a "sustainability, community, and solarpunk" kind of way not the "prepping for me-and-mine! Technology and women in pants are sins" way. We live in our wee diy hill top home full of 2nd hand and home-made treasures
