Opensource or easily portable to linux also helps. The amount of games I see on retrohandhelds that are available from portmaster is amazing. I've been going to my steam and downloading the linux data files to pop over to my little anbernic device.

Just finished the fan translated / fixed Sega Saturn version. Gods I love playing this game yearly.

Yep.
It has a built in 56K modem.
Not just that, it wasn't even the first console to support online modes. There were ways to play SNES/Megadrive online as well. Even the NES had some basic online functionalities for stuff like banking.
