COLUMN. Kaouther Ben Hania's unprecedented work is less a film about Gaza and Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli tanks, than it is about our individual and collective powerlessness to stop the horr...

The Org of Small Island Nations --our neighbors & Human kin-- said of climate: "We are not on track to limit warming to 1.5 degrees, as science, justice and equity
demand. The recent International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion also reaffirmed the
1.5 degree temperature limit as a legal limit."

A shocking display of how actually divided the country is
"Today, the share of wealth held by the richest 0.1% is currently at its peak, with households in the highest rung having a minimum of $38 million in wealth. Overall, roughly 131,000 households fall into this elite wealth bracket." (2024)

Attacking clergy & paying no attention to pleas from Catholic Bishops are clues to how this nation is unravelling in the midst of war in Europe. Totalitarian policies by our governing Troika -- that is : POTUS Trump, Speaker Johnson, and C.J. Roberts-- are on full display in Chicago. Ah "Under God?"

The deniers of abrupt climate change as policy makers are only driving up the cost of responding resileintly to climate chaos, costing people thier jobs, destroying their property, & causing mass-migration. Tell Congress to restore clean energy, now to save lives.

Some states are so aware of this fascist regime in power that their residents stood in line for hours to cast ballots favoring "liberty & justioce for all." Californians, Virginians (the oldest representative Commonwealth in America], Jerseyites, Pennsylvanians, &, of course, NYC thanks 4 voting!🌈

The destruction of our White House's architectural integrity is a symbol for the country sickly infused with unaccounatble actions. With a suppliant House of Reps. & a supine SCOTUS during an ever widening constitutional crisis, tearing down a public structure is a metaphor. Wake up & smell the dust

We joined neighbors and friends in the streets this morning to protest the totalitarian juggernaut of Congress and SCOTUS in sustaining Trump's pillaging of the Civil Service.
Enough of "know-nothing" politics of the reactionary GOP Congress, & of the Trump-Vance axis of fear mongering liars.

"Cry the beloved country." How the mighty nation is destroying itself is a lesson for the ages. I believe in free speech, liberty & equal rights so I wish everyone did. But, "a new report on book bans in U.S. schools finds Stephen King as the author most likely to be censored." So reports the AP

A federal judge ruled that deployment of troops in Los Angeles around anti-ICE protests violated federal law...But Tyrant Trump wants troops in many other cities – using the military in cities nationwide to deal with law enforcement that falls well short of rioting – is unprecedented in US history.

The Supreme Court has lost its capacity to reign in --or supress-- totalitarianism by "The 6-3 conservative majority... in its unsigned order that the aid groups may lack the legal authority to bring their challenge...expressed concerns that ruling against Trump... threatened to impair his power"

The US retreat from an effective defense of European nations --even those who were invaded by their neighbors' aggressive military-- is an example of the nadir of American power that the Chinese and North Koreans are watching very carefully. Xenophobic, isolationism in the US fuels disorder & war.
The russians don't want peace, and in fact they never wanted it, because they started the invasion in the first place.

America went away on summer vacation and returned to a totalitarian nation–especially when Indiana GOP majority members of the legislature resist the Trump onslaught to redistrict every state to deprive Democrats of seats in the next Congress. A 2d term President has nothing to tie them to reality.

In our 1st "congressional election, Patrick Henry drew a House district to keep James Madison from being elected to Congress....ever since, partisan governing made things worse. In 2024, but 37 House seats were competitive–decided by 5 % points or less. 11 of those districts changed between parties.
