Given the choice between hoping that McCarthy develops and wallowing in the previous hopeless cycle of being good but never good enough, I would choose the former a hundred times out of a hundred.

This is what you get from a twenty-two-year-old quarterback making his fifth career start. There’ll be ups and downs, and oftentimes more of the latter.
The kid has physical gifts and mental toughness, but also a lack of experience and an inaccurate arm.
It’ll play out over the next couple years.
