a while back i received a message on my strawpage asking what kinds of flowers oberon would give tenshi...!!! so naturally i ended up doing a lot more research than what was probably necessary
i really really love the idea of oberon giving her flowers because when you consider the meanings they take on within the context of hanakotoba, they can become a way for oberon to express sentiments that he's unable to more explicitly express without them being twisted in some way! i've been looking into the kinds of hanakotoba meanings that various flowers have, so i wanted to list out a few here: freesia: freesias are perfect for obeguda—and by extension obetenshi—because of how they're strongly associated with friendship and can also be used to convey sentiments of affection and gratitude! it's said that when freesias were discovered by the danish botanist christian friedrich ecklon, he named the flower "freesia" after his german friend and fellow botanist friedrich freese. furthermore, yellow and white freesias in particular signify innocence, red freesias for purity, and purple ones for longing or even admiration. i think freesias would be lovely flowers for oberon to give tenshi not just because of their associations with friendship and yearning, but also because tenshi is a very pure and innocent person; not necessarily in the sense that she's naive and sheltered (though she kind of is in terms of the latter), but because of the way she lives her life and carries herself. she's very passionate and diligent when it comes to the things she loves, like ballet and the performing arts, and she never does these things half-heartedly. her passion and dedication to her craft is very pure and that's essentially the kind of thing i want to express through her. jasmine: the hanakotoba meanings of jasmines include elegance, grace, and friendliness, qualities which i think perfectly describe tenshi! she's very lively and bright and a little airheaded sometimes, but the years of ballet classes and competitions under her belt have molded her into someone who also exudes a natural elegance and maturity. sunflower: i can't Not include sunflowers, especially after how the ost that plays during a part of oberon's binaural audio video is called "the sun in the abyss!" not to mention i associate tenshi with flowers because of her surname, hanashima. funnily enough i had also likened tenshi to the sun in the past (with oberon being the moon) because of her general disposition and also because she shines brightest when she's on stage!! that's when she's her element!!! in this sense she's both a sun AND a flower lol. in hanakotoba, sunflowers typically signify passion, longing, or that "i am only looking at you," so i'm kind of obsessed with the thought of oberon giving her sunflowers because of this 🥺 it makes for an interesting sort of irony because sunflowers are symbolism for tenshi and yet because sunflowers are heliotropic and turn towards the sun, oberon himself is a sunflower who only looks at his sun (tenshi) 🥺 the number of sunflowers given is significant, too! a single sunflower can mean "love at first sight," or, "i've been interested in you since i first saw you." three sunflowers is a confession of love, while seven of them signifies a secret love. 99 of them represents "eternal love;" 108 is a marriage proposal; and finally, 999(!) sunflowers indicate such deep affection that "i will love you no matter how many times we are reborn." white egret flower/fringed orchid/sagiso: this is another flower that i really could see being given to tenshi, especially because its white petals bear a strong resemblance to the wings of a heron! while i think tenshi would be more of a swan if she were a bird (ngl it's because of the swan lake ballet LMAO), i do also strongly associate her with wings because she's an angel!!! that aside, its main meanings in hanakotoba include purity, delicateness, and most importantly, "i think of you even in my dreams." Oberon...... there was a really good moment in the current JP event where he gives kazuradrop a flower crown as part of her perfect father competition; some JP users tweeted about how he didn't consider that a proper gift which i found interesting is it because he gave it as "oberon"...? the only gift he's actually given then would be his valentine's one in his third ascension and it was subverted by the fact that the box's contents was actually something common and not exactly something you'd expect to receive as a gift on such a (significant?) occasion up until now my personal interpretation was that even if he were to give a gift it'd be subverted in some manner bc of who he is, whether it be thru its contents or how he "gives" it, because even in his VD scene he doesn't do so directly; guda wakes up and it's there already so i like to think that in a similar way if oberon were to give her flowers he wouldn't do so publicly/give it in a way that would make one think that it was a gift...i have the image of him leaving a few on her desk and then giving a noncommittal answer when asked about it LOL he'd give it in a bit of an unconventional manner, but that's okay!! tenshi knows what he's trying to convey anyways :] or at least that's what i'd like to think fjdfdh what do i know i just woke up and writing about oberon is never easy
