Color scheme reminds me of my humble attempts to depict flayed human skins on flesheaters. Nice choice!

Our whole childhood we've been told not to throw found ammo in the fire. Still, it was favourite childhood pasttime for swamp kids. We've always called militia if we found grenade or shell though. None of people I knew personally got hurt, but there were stories. Good times, shit times. Old times.

Long have I waited to post this.

...and what about (sorry) people who consider "art" menial task? A lot of coders hate wasting time on buttons & switches design, and are now using genAI to do that with this exact argument: it is a menial task and creative programmers should not spend time on it.

When one reads almost any revolution history, one always wonders "how could there be such hate and cruelty in people?". After last decade: yep, now one totally understands.

We were lucky to be ones who witnessed the Real Free Net with all the pros and cons. That's how, I think, first aviators felt: dangerous yet true freedom with no rules and real camaraderie throughout the world. Now it's filled to the brim with predators and controllers. And both are worse evil.

I had to re-read this post twice. 😁 One for each Shadows.

So now AI crowd is going to ruin the good name of book pirates? Arrr!

Doesn't that mean that Universe et al. couldn't be CREATED? Or, at the very least, couldn't be created without built-in flaws? Interrresting.

Compared to what we have around us right now, the Culture universe is utter blatant optimism. I really need some (tyrannical) sentient spaceship to take care of me right now.

You do realize that anyone trying to properly pronounce all the God-King Chronicles gender-specific diacritics would be in no better situation, right? Right?

If age allows, I'd start with 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵.

Huge b+w maps, please. Little vehicle images too. Characters I can live without, but everything else should be referenced, for both author/editor & reader. Otherwise some vehicles appear tracked in one book and wheeled in the other one. (cough, bone bracelet, cough). 😁

That's... not nice. Very much so.

Why isn't this photo on cover of "Deathworlder"? 😁

Never doubted you did GM, based on what I've read.

As for bad habits: I've read, edited and translated fiction, never wrote one. But I'd prefer poorly described scenes over glaring plot holes and one-dimensional characters. Former is way easier to correct. But that's just my humble opinion.

I would recommend any author to experience TTRPG and similar stuff before writing fiction. It will add "when there is a real opposition and important result depends on it" to the "think like a hero/villain" formula. Caveat: this experience would ruin a lot of media for one consumer-wise.

And the feedback can be either sincere/honest (good) or polite (also good). The problems rise when the expected good feedback doesn't match one that was received.

And after that parties try to reach a consensus.

Basic human need is not to reach a consensus, but share what you consider to be "good" with others for them to enjoy, as otherwise one would perceive oneself as "bad" (greedy, egoistical, etc.). As a result there's also need from the other party to provide feedback. 1/2

Dunno if it's good or bad, but she's definitely negative.

And if one says something in line with "Shut up and write next Lion novel" - should one await replies? Asking for a friend.

You're going to either love it or hate it. There's no in-between.
