FDR was from before the elites found a source of wealth; the money printer. This also caused the rest of the money to devaluate, but hey; that is a problem for the common man. And so did the wealth gap start; and it has been powering billionaires since the 70's. Simple greed is the issue.

This is just one effect of the disconnect of the concepts of "value" and "money". But going for FIAT-money is the root cause of a variety of societal issues, the wealth gap being on of them.
