Some people are also researching procedural real time texture generation, this can lead to infinite resolution textures that are generated on-the-fly and can thus be animated. Game file size and loading time could be drastically reduce with medium impact on performance.

Clutered rendering fox example is here since some years and drastically accelerated the time to render scene with hundreads and thousands of dynamic lights, and the basis of wich is currently used to create dynamic mesh lod systems like nanite.

If you are interested, I can recommend to you some other really neat real-time graphic tech advancement. Currently, I'm working at an internship in a laboratory on advanced noise and texture synthesis, and I find it so much more interesting than the "slighty better lighting at 3x the cost" of RTX.

For me : "meh". It's more marketing lies than real result. I don't think the industrty need to chase the pho-realism goal anymore. But it's just my opinion on the subject. I understand why you are hyped by the progress so far.

I'm not convinced by the tech yet, it's wayy to heavier and the fact that ray based technique relies so much on denoising isn't good. I don't care about perfect realistic reflection if the image is blurry and i'm running the scene at half the frame rate.
