I’m here for history, travel hints, and a few laughs. WV born & raised, Virginia Tech educated, long term resident of Raleigh.
Me, a sophisticate: “Wien” is the name of Vienna in the local dialect. The W sound in German is V in English. The -er ending in German is frequently associated with “of” or “from”. This is Viennese nougat.

Also Me, Beavis & Butthead voice: A huh huh huh, wiener nougat. A huh huh huh.

I dreamed to chronologically or socio-economically graduate some day from “Moving Day”, but my 53 year old, overweight ass was loading a truck again today.

Visited Knife River’s equipment & CDL training facility yesterday for a series of meetings unrelated to operating equipment or earning a CDL. Very cool nonetheless with 80k square feet under a positive pressure dome and 8 feet of dirt to play with. One of the world’s largest sandboxes.

Airport art, an occasional Bluesky series by me of indefinite length and questionable value. Today: Hiroko Cannon’s exhibit at PDX

An icon painter in Ukraine has been creating icon-ish paintings on ammo box lids as a fundraiser. We saw the Lord and Lady of Drones at the International Folk Art Museum in Albuquerque today. Really nice museum.

My 76 year old father is a daily contradiction of Darwin. Somewhere between 1/4 & 1/3 of the branches in that tree are waiting for a stiff breeze to prune them. “Let me see if I can lift my leg up high enough to get on that branch.”

Rather than read these books from our grandparents, they made outstanding launching ramps for this wind up motorbike.

I used to get upset when everything got shutdown in Raleigh over a dusting of snow. Now I welcome it as a force majeure excuse for most to take it as a mental health day.

Somebody went before the city council (or equivalent) in Bizerte, Tunisia and advocated for the placement of this statue in a prominent public space.

Our Croatian guide said that a local saying is “she looks like a cow on St George’s Day”.

Refrigerator ran out of room and we had to recalibrate. Maybe time to dial it back a bit…

@edburmila.bsky.social Brutalism bait in Rio. Modern cathedral built in the 1960s. Self supporting. No columns or buttresses. Remarkably quiet this morning even though it is nothing but concrete.

Life a little too random? Shreveport Airport has a solution…

@sluggodoug.bsky.social I listen every morning from my home office in Raleigh NC looking at maps and memories of where I rather be than at work.
