Utterly hilarious, given that it is a site I’m in no way responsible for. My heart goes out to those poor techs who had to troubleshoot this for essentially 24 hours. I got a strong adrenaline jolt just reading about it. “We fixed it… nope still broken downstream….” Lather, rinse and repeat. Sigh.

I always give a marginal tax calculation problem as a homework assignment in my beginning programming courses, because everyone should understand how they work.

In a similar vein, we did have to leave quickly after yelling “Moo if y’all from State” (old ACC insult) at Tim Stoddard, former NC State bball player turned Oriole relief pitcher in the process of blowing both games in a double header.

There really isn’t much color range, is there? Is that where the difficulty was?

One area I haven’t seen much about in discussions of LLMs: What if (for argument’s sake) we could automate juniors out of existence? How would we then develop seniors?

Shep, I’m so sorry, I messed up the threading, and didn’t mean to be responding to your original point. It sucks that our medical system is so screwed up, such that you have to even think about making decisions like this. Sorry to be that “reply person”.

Very. I was working a coding job, and it was my dominant arm. Make sure you pre-plan with a keyboard tray - the closer to your lap you can get your keyboard, the more you’ll be able to use your hand. Plan on 1 handed typing for a while, though. You also won’t be able to drive for a while, FWIW.

Trying not to be one of *those* people, but since @ilisabat.bsky.social hasn't been officially diagnosed as POTS, I wanted to mention the Levine protocol of progressive exercise. An associate was able to reduce sodium/drugs -- but obviously not for everyone. Glad to give more details.

Thanks, I think.... following the chain of articles needed to make sense through brain fog while end of semester grading calls is why the ambivalence. What's a few more browser tabs I won't be closing any time soon? Seriously, though, thanks for all you do for us.

Thanks! I guess I had misunderstood — this is treatment during the acute phase, right? Not for treatment once you already have LC, sigh. Glad to hear my SO is probably is and has been protected, though.

I guess it depends on your long covid clinic. I asked in my long covid support group and no one had heard anything about using metformin. Sigh… I see my doc next week and will probably ask about it, since I’m borderline on needing it anyway.

I think it might be related to having to “adult” and not have family to help you order your life. At least that’s my guess as a faculty member.

Disney Cruises are also good — you have a wait staff member that follows you around from restaurant to restaurant who checks in with you before each meal to let you know what is safe/not safe in the choices and to make sure you get good food to your liking while respecting your safety.

Whenever I hear the word “time” and computers, my mind still translates to “Leslie Lamport” from his paper I read back in the late 80s when I was first learning about distributed computing.

Does chewy infuse their boxes with catnip? I also have a cat that considers a chewy box with crinkly paper one of the best sleeping spots.
