Hummingbirds with Fuchsia cross stitch ✨️🪡🧵🌸🦜🐦‍⬛

the hummingbirds are custom colour, localised to species of where i'm from.

been working on an espeon cross stitch, and planning to complement it with umbreon 🌙🐈‍⬛️

i made the pattern using the grid in procreate, based off the gen 4 game sprite, with custom dynamic outline pixels going beyond the 16 colour limit

i keep seeing official videos of stitching through both cotton fabric and aida though!
plain aida cloth and cotton polyester fabric are fixed in an embroidery hoop with the scrap piece of aida cloth loosely pinned through the fabric. in the background is some straight stitches embroidery in blue. resting on the embroidery hoop is my ever helpful morale keeping egg needle minder magnet

coming from an illustrative artist background, cross stitch actually makes for a great transition point.

i realised that painting is ... putting colour paste on fabric 🙀🎨
a variety of straight stitching forms in blue are scattered around an embroidery hoop fixed with normal cotton/polyester woven fabric. there is a lovely and helpful fried egg needle minder. the photo is heavily filtered in pastel pink.

i got disappointed with stitches being loose, so this piece is almost all the traditional trailing cross stitch as well as all starting stitches being anchored.

it definitely gets into the hundreds or thousands 😹🪡

about a week ago, the sparrow chickies had flown out of the nest. before they left, one of their parents showed off her baba. good job, mama birds!! 💕🐦‍⬛

the other day, i passed by a group of all black kittens and their tortie mama, totally pretending they weren’t following a free roaming hen.
it reminded me of an old digital painting of kittens that i saw near the university, where the chickens walk around just as freely.

making the connection that pixel art came from textile patterns is my favourite part 👾
