This poor hen looks exhausted, but after a couple of months of laying eggs, sitting on eggs, hatching eggs, and keeping chicks fed, watered and alive, she finally got them all up on the roost. You're doing a great job, Blueberry!
Blueberry, a lovely silver and gold Icelandic hen, is sitting on a roost. Her feathers are disheveled and her comb is pale and drooping. From underneath her belly feathers poke out the tails of chicks who are sitting on her feet. Reuben, an out-of-focus rooster, is in the background watching everyone.

I think we've almost achieved a dusting in Little Washington, with a light, steady snowfall around 11am.
A snow-dusted drive winds past some sycamore trees, a chicken coop and a frozen pond with a view of Jenkins Mountain on the horizon. Rappahannock County, VA.

Ponds are freezing up in Rappahannock County. Snow is on the way!

The ground is covered in snow. A stone chimney and mountains can be seen in the background. In the foreground, three domestic ducks are assessing the situation up Harris Hollow in Little Washington, VA. Why don't ducks' feet freeze? Because they have a natural heat-exchanger in their feet. In waterfowl, the veins and arteries in the feet run next to each other, exchanging heat and preventing the feet from freezing. The warm blood also heats up the cold blood coming from the feet before it goes back into the body, preventing it from bringing down the core temperature of the bird. Add that to an exquisitely preened and waterproof down coat, and you have a creature prepared to happily play in the snow all day.

The woman’s face is full of youth and bright in the first picture. Seven years later, her skin is suffering from major fat loss and sagging. Her eyes are shrinking in size and dull. The woman is also in the early stages of “meth mouth.”

He has mistakenly fallen in love with his human keeper and is behaving as if the tub holding the collected day's fresh eggs is the human's secret nest. He has been hunting for this nest for weeks. He's been stalking the human everywhere, but politely at a distance, waiting for her to lay an egg. He is being extremely gentle with the eggs. His great, big, pink webbed feet are standing right on the eggs, but he doesn't even crack a single one.

This Chelydra serpentina is feeling shy, not snappy.
She looks SO FAT because her long neck can't fit in her shell without squishing everything else out.
She has no interest in biting anyone. All this lady really wants to do is to have a nice swim, nap in the sun, and eat some sushi.
I'm holding a fat snapping turtle, who has her head tucked into her shell as much as a snapping turtle possibly can.
