To be blunt, I remind myself that if certain books/tv shows that I will not name, get published/made and get tons of money thrown at them, then I cannot be possibly as screwed as I think I am.

That and I remind myself that writing is a journey not the end point

I'm a plantser. I generally try to outline as much as I can but while writing I usually do end up making off the cuff/spontaneous decisions depending on where the scene takes me.

This is usually because as I write my draft, I'm still getting ot know the story.

Perhaps part of it was his hormones or feelings speaking, but the knight hated seeing the vivacious woman he’d grown to love over the last few days looking so broken. And he hadn’t been able to do anything. He wasn’t there when she was hurt. He hadn’t been able to heal her. Magicless, mundane, Martin could just hold Ginger’s hands, scarred by hours of labor and battle. “Hey.” Martin opened his eyes, wondering if he was dreaming, but he could feel his hand being squeezed back. “Ginger. You’re…” “I feel like shit. Elizabeth… Ayax… are they safe?” she asked. “Yes, because of you. Why did you do that?” Ginger yawned, wincing as she shifted slightly. “I didn’t want to disappoint. Sorry. I… I wanted to do the right thing.” Groaning, Martin leaned over, hand touching Ginger’s face. His fingers trailed across her cheek. His vision was blurring again. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t there. I…” “It’s all good. I’m sorry too. I think I got a bunch of new scars,” Ginger stammered, wincing as she did so. Martin swallowed. He could hear the hurt behind those words. He knew how self-conscious Ginger could be about her appearance. “I don’t care. I’ll have fun kissing them.” “… you know they tickle!” she spluttered, blushing. They were laughing and crying. There was too much pain and sorrow unsaid, but they held each other, trying to find a semblance of joy as the rain pattered against the fabric of their tent.

Frances of "A Fractured Song" series is survivor of child abuse survivor. However, while her story is about conquering her trauma, she's actually most afraid of harm coming to her friends and adoptive mother.

I’m looking forward to sleeping in to be honest. I tend to write or think about writing in the late evening which is when I have some time alone but it means I sleep late.

So ”A Fractured Song” is an isekai, aka kids got transported to another world story. This isn’t the 4th time this has happened and so one side feels they get oppressed when they get overpowered heroes summoned against them

Fantasy Indies September list Snippet: Frances was wondering why her friend was being so discrete, especially as he leaned in a little. “If you ever need to talk to me about Timur or about anyone else you might have feelings for, please don’t hesitate to let me know.” Frances whispered, “There’s no one else but Timur. I haven’t heard from him in a long time, though. I don’t even know if what I feel for him makes any sense.” “Love doesn’t have to be perfectly rational, Frances. You had a connection with him and you saved each other,” Martin said. “He’s a Prince of Alavaria.” Martin arched an eyebrow, pointed at himself, then thumbed towards Ginger, who was barking orders to a patrolling group of soldiers. Frances nodded slowly. “That is true, but I don’t know if he feels what I feel for him.” “Trust me. I’m pretty sure he has feelings for you. I’m also hopeful that either you two will be together someday.” The confidence with which the knight declared his opinion caught Frances off guard. “You are? But why?” Martin sighed, his tone wistful. “I think you both are incredibly cute together and I’m also hoping that Ginger and I will—how do you say it—work out as well.” “You’re thinking of spending the rest of your life with her?” Frances asked, without any surprise, just awed curiosity. Martin took a breath. He didn’t nod, just shrugged, but his sky-blue eyes shining as he gazed at Ginger. “It’s a thought I’ve had more often than not. She makes me feel…happy, and safe.” “Is that what it’s like? To have someone you love and to be cared for by them?” Frances asked. Martin glanced at Frances. “Would you like to hear more, Frances?” “Only if you don’t mind,” said Frances, just barely able to suppress her eagerness. “Of course not! So” Even after talking about the subject through to lunch, Frances wasn’t sure she entirely understood Martin’s somewhat jumbled thoughts about what being with Ginger made him feel. She was very glad, however, to spend quality time with one of her best friends.

So my MC Frances' mentor is Edana, a middle-aged woman with kyphosis (spine twisted forward). In the world Frances is transported to, all human mages have a form of physical disability. Why? B/c I just honestly just wanted to.
