This was gonna go on YouTube but it kept getting copyright blocked, as YT's detection system thought this is unaltered footage from 1954's Godzilla. Except for the final two seconds. That was the only part YT would have allowed to upload.

It's already a hassle to get to the nearest city that's 13 miles away. I can't fathom traveling nearly 400 times farther to another continent.

I also deliberately try to avoid making effects the "proper" way, like rendering 3D light rays or simulating fluid and dust physics. Mostly because I don't think my PC could handle realistic simulations. So I fake these effects with old-school tricks and I keep everything looking artificial.

After the shots are rendered, I add all sorts of gleam, bloom and radial blur effects over them in the video editor to imitate light rays and conceal the rendering imperfections. The official movies also cut corners and faked various effects with simple compositing tricks wherever they could.

I just use really outdated software (Blender 2.79), separate the scene into many render layers (background, characters, water, mist) and add effects in the compositor, like displacement and blur effects over the water layer, darkening the shadows and adding glare over everything. It's convoluted.
