A movie that takes place where you're from.

Tonight on TCM starting at 8PM E/5PM P, @eddiemuller.bsky.social hosts a night of neo-noir. The classic POINT BLANK (1967), the charming THE LATE SHOW (1977), and the still-batshit-insane PERFORMANCE (1970). #TCMParty

I saw PRESENCE when it opened in January. I watched it again because it will be in A HELL OF A DRINK, my book with Chris Elford. (No surprise: the PRESENCE cocktail is made with Singani 63. IYKYK.) The movie's greatness was even more apparent on second viewing. One of my favorites of 2025.

Still unpacking my rewatch of this movie days later. Substitute "social media" for "television" and it remains dead-on accurate. ("Soon all of us will have special names.") And the cocktail is a banger.

ICYMI at Cocktails & Crime: how reading aloud fits into our marriage, why I won't be doing that for a while, and a quiz show movie with a quiz show host. vincekeenan.substack.com/p/c-and-c-85...

NEW COCKTAILS & CRIME. A survey of books I've read aloud this year now that circumstances have forced me to stop, plus watching QUIZ SHOW with Ken Jennings. vincekeenan.substack.com/p/c-and-c-85...

Revisited this movie, which is somehow even more bizarre than I remembered, because, so help me, there's actually gonna be a VIDEODROME cocktail in A HELL OF A DRINK.

Excellent night courtesy of @siffnews.bsky.social, revisiting QUIZ SHOW (1994) on the big screen introduced by none other than @kenjennings.bsky.social. Amazing how this Best Picture nominee, unavailable on Blu-ray, has been somewhat forgotten.

Caught up with the latest THE LAST DRIVE-IN with @therealjoebob123.bsky.social and @darcythemailgirl.bsky.social. Gotta respect Joe Bob for pausing the debate on giallo movies to trash Philo Vance as a lousy detective character.

The entire New Yorker interview with Jon Stewart is gold, but it's the final exchange that makes me feel seen. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

ICYMI at Cocktails & Crime, an Elmore Leonard bio leads me back to some of his early stuff, with a surprising amount of material about Fresca. Plus, drinking around Chicago. vincekeenan.substack.com/p/c-and-c-84...

NEW COCKTAILS & CRIME. A biography of Elmore Leonard sends me back to early work by Dutch, and to my complicated history with Fresca. Also, I drink Midwestern style. vincekeenan.substack.com/p/c-and-c-84...

Took the whole month, but I drank my way through the entire Nightmare on Wall Street menu at @navystrengthseattle. Pictured: the Roman Ritual, inspired by THE OMEN, and the Dream Warrior, based obviously on NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3.

Rewatched Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA (1977) both for Halloween and A HELL OF A DRINK. Still gloriously insane. It also still bumps that the ballet student who vanishes is named Pat Hingle. Didn't Argento know about this guy? He'd been working for decades by '77. The 2018 remake even keeps the name.

BLUE MOON is a captivating, small miracle of a movie. It's even more astonishing to watch Ethan Hawke's revelatory turn as Lorenz Hart while in the midst of his polar-opposite performance in FX's THE LOWDOWN.

Thanks to Gearhouse Coffee Shop and Movie & Wine Night with Taylor for hosting a stealth A HELL OF A DRINK event last night. Chris Elford and I introduced MANDY (2018) and Chris poured Seekers of the Serpent's Eye, a juicy low ABV cocktail inspired by the film.

Work, work, work. Sampling the Party Game, Chris Elford's cocktail inspired by TALK TO ME (2022), soon to be seen in our book A HELL OF A DRINK.

ICYMI at Cocktails & Crime: everything you'd want to know about the new horror movie cocktail book I'm writing with Chris Elford, plus why you should watch RELAY with Riz Ahmed and more. vincekeenan.substack.com/p/c-and-c-83...

NEW COCKTAILS & CRIME! The full story on the horror-movie-inspired cocktail book I'm writing with world-class bartender Chris Elford, plus the best movie thriller of the year so far and more. vincekeenan.substack.com/p/c-and-c-83...

The Room 237, Chris Elford's cocktail inspired by THE SHINING. Now at Navy Strength Seattle and soon to be in our book A HELL OF A DRINK.

SOME PERSONAL NEWS! Cannot wait to get A HELL OF A DRINK out there in 2027. Chris Elford is a dear friend and a genius bartender. His horror movie inspired cocktails are fantastic. Every Sasquatch book is gorgeous. Halloween will never be the same again!

Off the top of my head, I can think of better ways to spend $340 million than having the chance to be eliminated from postseason contention in Game 162. And I say this as someone who just flew halfway across the country to watch the #Mets.

Finally caught up with THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY, and after this wonderfully nasty piece of work I'm all in on whatever writer/director Francis Galluppi does next.
