Disappearances by William Wiser. It was published in 1980, had a moment, and then, apparently, faded. I found it in my high school library. It’s out of print, but there are copies out there.

With the demise of humanities programs at so many universities, college is becoming trade school, just at a higher level. Soon enough, we’ll be missing the empathy and complex thinking that comes from studying lit, history, and philosophy.

My daughter’s 7th grade social studies teacher used Zinn as their textbook 20 years ago. The lessons stuck.

My dad kept boxes of IBM punch cards from the '70s when he fancied himself a computer whiz. I had to coach him through using MS Word. That's my metaphor for those guys. They might have shone in their moment, but that moment has passed.
