Beyond Citadel has gore fetish vibes, though, which are arguably as fucked-up.

True, there's not.
Now, jokes aside, this may sound truly controversial, but Robocop 3, despite all of its bullshit and kid-friendly nature, is a better movie than 2. But people are not ready for that sort of conversation yet.

If being wrong was a competition, you'd come third after people who like Alien: Romulus and Robocop 2.

Idk, my city's metro is actually all three.

My man, have you even tried using it? It's probably the least convenient videogame metro I can think of.

Yup. The guy was quite left-leaning, to say the least, but he never missed an opportunity to jab at the USSR & Co. when they deserved it.

I doubt I can name a single fantasy book published AFTER 2000, tbh.

That's because this is what they're called, you dingus.
And sure, they also engaged in a bombing campaign and stuff, but, unlike HAMAS they never crossed the line and never were obscurant fanatics who recruit children.

And those aren't even his best!
He was truly a great artist.

Nobody says they shouldn't fight back. And national-liberation movements are rarely pleasant people.
But in this concrete case, we have a nice example of PLA, which managed to fight Israeli imperialism and not be composed of crazed-out religious zealots.

You can. The problem is with the US, not the police.
Either way, Ron Cobb's political cartoons have always been great. I urge everyone to check them out.
June 15, 2025 at 11:29 AM
The last time I checked, backwards religious fundamentalists who don't shy away from terror bombings and child soldiers are kinda bad. Arguably, as bad as imperialistic genocidal chauvinists.

From both Israel and HAMAS, really.

Wow, he's literally me...

How is King Louie problematic, again? That's literally Louie Prima in a monkey form. I highly doubt even the Italians would find that offensive in any way.

Karn Evil 9.
'nuff said.

I re-read it and tend to disagree, as it explicitly states that Sunset City is more of an idealized amalgamation of New England as a whole, made out of cobbled childhood memories and fantasies, rather than a reflection of some specific place.

I see. My assumptions were based on people with 'swarthy faces' coming to the street earlier than those who 'fled' the Russian Revolution, so I've always imagined this to be part of the undying rhetoric about all immigrants being the same and eagerly destroying the country if such opportunity arises
January 28, 2025 at 9:25 AM
Hmm, I've always assumed this was about the first Red Scare and the general notion that European immigrants ruin America, introducing it to 'harmful ideologies', and thought that said immigrants were implied, among obvious eastern Europeans, to be Irish, Italian, etc.
January 27, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Well, nativism is sort of xenophobic in itself, and the story is literally about dirty evil foreigners ruining America to the point when even inanimate architecture can't take it anymore. I don't think one can get more xenophobic than that.
January 27, 2025 at 7:08 PM
I still marvel at how 'hard' this story is, especially for the time and for Lovecraft. If I didn't know better, I'd assume it was written sometime in the late 40s or early 50s.

WAIT, THAT WHAT IMPLIED TO BE BOSTON ALL ALONG? FOR FUCK'S SAKE, I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO PERCEIVE THIS STORY THE WAY I USED TO ANYMORE, LMAO
January 27, 2025 at 5:25 PM
The best one he's ever written. In hindsight, after reading through nearly all of his published works, I think he should have stuck to writing Dunsany-esque fantasy instead of pure horror, and I will die on this hill.
