it's one of those runs where in the month-to-month it felt like there were all these huge moments that were building to something truly legendary but going back and reading it as a whole it never really feels cohesive or that it has, like,

i kinda don't really know whether it's possible to create a label to distinguish "real" small budget/independent works these days without opening it up to being co-opted by capital, esp. because parasocial "relatability" is such a huge trend in corporate-backed works in the influencer era

when i made games back in 2013 there was a push to try and group up all the transgressive/experimental/actively hostile to convention works by solo devs/small teams as "altgames" instead and it flamed out for like a dozen reasons
then "alt-" everything got co-opted and the scene flamed out lmao
