- Alfomseca’s extra digit
- Sojo’s clutchness in the Subway series
- Freel’s troubled mind and acrobatic catches
- La Tortuga, contactless contact hitter
- I’m sure Kim was a good reliever, but I mostly remember him giving up homers

Each of these songs can wreck me if they hit me on the right (or wrong) day. The Fiona song wound up being my only pick from the '20s, and "Farewell Transmission" my sole pick from the peak indie period.

Ok, idk what to call this group. It originally had a lot of reggae songs, but Jamaican artists were addicted to releasing singles and very bad at documenting them. I replaced a couple of reggae favorites with my favorite Fela song and a late period indie song no one else will pick.

Making my list, I realized how singles-focused rap has been for much of its history. The genre emerged with the 12" format, and today, basically every song has a music video. The 90s hit the album track sweet spot. Threw in a couple of my favs from the '10s too

It does exactly what it says on the can.

Pretty self-explanatory. Some of these are consensus picks, some of these aren't. What do they have in common? I know every word, and I've played them all on the piano. Happy to take requests if anyone is interested.

15-year-old me, you picked a good one from London Calling
Arthur Lee composed Forever Changes thinking he was gonna die immediately. He lived, but left us this anyway
"Walter" hits harder as I grow older. ELO owes Ray Davies royalties.
I know have a weird favorite Prince song.

"Judy Is A Punk" is my fav <2 minute song ever
"Sick Bed" changed the way I think about music
"Just Like A Baby" instantly immerses you in its narcotic atmosphere and funks you to death
I can't make a list in June and July without some Skylarking

These songs have soundtracked weddings, funerals, photo montages, breakups, etc. My parents sang me a couple of these as a baby. All great songs, obviously.

Everything above "Sloop John B" is a 10/10, so the ranking is just splitting hairs
