There needs to be swifter connections between Newcastle and Carlisle too. It's crazy there's no E-W dual carriageway nor fast rail connection for the 4hrs/200miles between Manchester and Glasgow, or Leeds and Edinburgh.

Even to itself... Featherstone Castle is on the haugh (banks) of the River South Tyne, near Haltwhistle in Northumberland. It's pronounced 🪶 🪨

Worth realising the National Park Authorities are also planning authorities, so 'councils' isn't broad enough IMO.

Cross border areas with common landscapes and communities would be good, e.g North Pennines. Especially if the fragmented communities benefitted from critical mass to regain viable infrastructure (6th forms, snowploughs, hospitals, etc) and become sustainable again.
