Your example of the Sistine Chapel is an interesting one. Should artists be forced into projects they don't want to do and only be able to execute on their vision if the commissioner indebted to the artist?

Externalizing the mind's eye will only help create more great commissions.

I disagree.

GenAI leads to a reduction in pentimento, the destruction of art, rather than a trend toward trash. As I said, I don't think art is worse off because artists have to create their own pigments. Why should artists compromise now?

Art's greatness doesn't derive from suffering.

Part of what is interesting about GenAI is that it's _not_ based on 100% retention, but learning. (Granted, mainly because it's not feasible...)

Humans using machines to be better humans doesn't take jobs, it changes them.

Democratizing art and creativity will continue to be a net good.

For Twitter, I assume you mean find find followers, block users with low SNR, maybe use Lists.

One exciting potential about Bluesky is "Feeds" means shared, user-generated algorithmic lists instead of a single company-defined view.

Want to see the latest hacker con chat? Could be a thing soon.

Why stop at YouTube?

chromewebstore.google.com/detail/video...

Speed and skip controls for nearly 100% of online video content. It's life changing.

If GenAI is theft, then all art is theft. Humans don't learn in a vacuum.

Is it immoral to commission a human to do your mother/daughter portrait "in the style of H.R. Giger"?

True artists should be using these tools to make better art faster, like Photoshop or factory-made pigments.

I prefer the model of Mastodon, but I like smaller communities. Bluesky seems to be more of a platform like Twitter but (currently) with more extensibility.

But I'm pretty confident that if Bluesky starts rounding the 200M user mark, the vibe will change to reflect that.

Neat tech, though.

Correction, they _could_ until I took hsky.social. Might come in handy if this site keeps growing...

Sadly, it appears their intent is to not render internationalized domain names everywhere.
November 16, 2024 at 10:29 AM
As soon as you change your existing handle, re-register tarah.bsky.social so others can't take it.

I asked something similar of @deviantollam.bsky.social yesterday. It feels like people are treating bsky.social as a clunky .com.

But like domains, dopplegangers could create tarah.hsky.social

I'm late to the party, but 2FA via email verification is now a thing.

Not as cool as passkeys, but, let's be honest, they were always going to have email recovery for the casuals. Might as well not hide the weakest link by including some titanium pins.
