Hello all! I'm a hw/sw engineer from the US, specializing primarily in C for MCUs. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, music, and all things tech-related.

I'm not planning to use BlueSky in any real way, but I've setup my posts to syndicate here (via echofeed.app).
Happy New Year! 🎉

At dusk this evening the moon was bright in the eastern sky, and I decided to have fun taking photos of it. Here’s one of the better shots, taken with some old Minolta glass on my GH5. 📸

Merry Christmas to all!

The pictured ornament is a gift commemorating a project I contributed to at work, the 20|20, given out a few years ago. 📸

Apparently, moving projects between groups in GitLab can have unintended side effects on pipelines and deployments. Which makes sense, but wish I’d have thought of that ahead of time… 😬

I decided to enjoy some of the last of the cooler weather for a while, and go for an evening walk… And was pleasantly surprised by a mostly-cloudless sky, and a bright full moon to keep me company tonight! 🌕

The downside of getting my vehicle’s oil changed at a dealership is that I’m really tempted to start looking at new vehicles… A small test drive couldn’t hurt, could it? 🤔

I once again decided to get my M4/3 camera out when I saw some interesting light & cloud patterns this evening. For the last ~16 hours I’ve been trying to figure out a weird issue with some of the page (/tags, /series, etc) that are autogenerated by Hugo for my site. Turns out maybe I shouldn’t upgrade Hugo versions quite so quickly…

Continuing in the veins of making my website my “virtual home”, I’ve now also copied the 9 episodes of my sister and I’s now-defunct podcast, Sibling Summit, to my website, replicated as blog posts with shownotes + links to the Archive.org audio, all sharing a common tag.

After another hour of work, all of my historical Instagram posts are now also replicated on my website as status updates! At some point I’ll probably make them easier to browse, but for now the /status feed will have to do.

This morning I was thinking about how much I wish there was a full FOSS (or even proprietary but self-hosted) replacement for Evernote. I’m mostly happy with my current note-taking setup, but nothing has yet fully replicated the “everything app” nature of Evernote for me (notes, important emails, web clippings, pdfs, etc)…

Finished re-listening to The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson this afternoon. I love reading his books, but I also especially enjoy the audiobook narration by Michael Kramer!

Step two of setting up POSSE-style microblogging… connect status updates to Mastodon via EchoFeed. Check, Check, is this thing on? https://www.justinvollmer.com/status/2024-11-23-112000/

Assuming everything is hooked up right, thanks to EchoFeed, I should now have cross-posting from my website to BlueSky working… This marks my first attempt at POSSE, posting updates to my own site, and syndicating to other platforms. https://www.justinvollmer.com/status/2024-11-23-095500/
