The government of the United States, which is controlled by Donald Trump in the presidency, Republicans in the Senate, and Republicans in the House, will shut down in a few hours.

It is the first shutdown since the last time Trump was president and he shut down the government.

You are three raccoons in a trench coat looking for breakfast? Try the alley behind Mildred’s, a Kansas City gem at 9th & Baltimore, legendary for their breakfast sandwiches. @generalsynic.bsky.social #uccsynod

Visitors getting BBQ while at Synod: The owner of Q39 in Kansas City is a member of my church. So not only does it taste great, it’s also extravagantly sauced and radically delicious. #uccsynod

Your local arrangements committee just stuffed 2,200 welcome bags with mints, tissues, and whatever else fit.
If I never see another zipper, it’ll be too soon. From now on, I’m living a button-only lifestyle. #uccsynod

Hot take: the chocolate chip cookies and iced lattes at The Roasterie in the lobby of the Marriott are the best in Kansas City. Change my mind. #uccsynod

When you’re a pastor and a baseball fan, and you find out the All-Star Game is the same time as closing worship at #uccsynod … “Let us pray… for a rain delay.” 🙃

The Press Secretary needs to stop calling the Texas flooding an “Act of God.” God doesn’t cause devastation. God consoles. God is with the grieving, not behind the disaster. Cutting emergency weather forecasting wasn’t divine, it was human. Blaming God dodges accountability when we need it most.

I'm grateful to have had my opinion letter shared by the Kansas Reflector this week.
For this Kansas minister, words from Episcopal bishop in Washington, D.C., were well-chosen • Kansas Reflector

I've canceled my Target Circle 360 and Amazon Prime memberships because their decisions to eliminate DEI initiatives don’t align with my values. Supporting businesses that prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion matters to me—so it's time to shop elsewhere!

In these difficult times, hope is a necessity. Hope fuels our resilience and reminds us that justice is worth pursuing. We must stand firm in the face of the evil among us. Darkness does not get the final word. Keep fighting. Keep hoping. Keep building the world we deserve.

I have struggled with speaking out. I think many of us do. We wonder what we could possibly say when the humanity of our transgender siblings is under attack. But silence is not an option—not when lives are on the line.

BlueSky is connecting me with work colleagues, photographers, poets, theologians, Swifties, dog lovers, fundraisers, artists, book nerds, musicians, knitters, bakers, writers, and change makers, in really refreshing ways. I love it. We gotta find our people and stick together.

If you haven't seen how Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke uses haka to force New Zealand's parliament to listen to and engage with her righteous anger, watch the clip and read this.
Tēnei te tangata
It's the haka heard around the world but why does it resonate so much with people outside of Aotearoa New Zealand?

Althea Crome's Miniature Sweaters Test the Limits of Traditional Knitting
Althea Crome’s miniature sweaters weren't shrunken in a dryer, but instead created stitch by stitch with scrupulous dexterity over hundreds of hours.
