We've never talked about it, but it may be worth mentioning that our own site employs a dead (wo)man's switch to display a warning and disable checkout if no admin's been active for a few days. It prevents selling out remaining stock in case we are burnt out, dead or otherwise lose access the shop.
Our best guess is that this is just a poorly handled case of burnout. Anyone who's out of pocket fully deserves to be upset, but if they do pop up with a public statement try to be kind and constructive.

We want our #DIYHRT to be safe and have all our products lab tested for id and concentration, as well as checked for impurities. We always list the results on the product pages. Here's the current EEn.
