Bound by vanilla gposing, today I offer a snippet of a longer fic where Freyalin and Minfilia meet again immediately post-UT. At the end of her rope and with her forever lost love.

Fic text that reads: “Freyalin,” Minfilia whispers, “What is it you wish to do now?” She finds herself confused by the question as she stares off into nothing. “What do you mean,” she says, voice quiet. A small, sad, smile forms on Minfilia’s face, "Your part in this is done, my warrior,” she says. She strokes her hair as Freyalin notes the smallest of a catch in her voice. “You’re allowed to just accept it. Death. Hydaelyn...Venat she. She’s so proud of you, and your story can end here, if you would like it to.” The very truth of the matter is, Freyalin would like it to. She’s tired, she’s in pain, all she’s wanted for the past few years is to just rest with no one looking to her for guidance. She wasn’t worth that. The thought of staying here with her, with Minfilia, it was as tempting as anything she’s been tempted with before. An out from all this. It was what she’d wanted for so long, and now it’s right in fro- End ID. Fic text, continued: There’s a zap in her chest that cuts off her thinking and she clutches her heart. Words scatter across her hearing and she can’t make out any clear phrases but she can feel the panic in their voices. She looks towards Minfilia. She smiles but her face is sad, “They’re calling out for you,” she says. “They want you back.” “I…” Freyalin begins. The pressure in her chest starts to build as the panic grows louder and she feels the presence of hands on her, healing magics trying to break through, but growing cold before she can truly feel them. “Oh-” Minfilia says with a start. She closes her eyes and brings a hand to her own chest, a low chuckle escapes her, “ He wants you back,” she says. She feels them all more clearly now. Urianger’s desperate cantrips. G’raha’s nervous muttering. Y’Shtola’s stoic musings. Alphinaud’s pleading. Alisaie’s annoyance. Estinien attentive gaze. Thancred’s…everything. There’s a tether that feels like it’s been wrapped around her torso like a lasso around a lamb and she lets out a gasp. It’s warm and inviting and it’s pulling her away from this place. Or it was simply in its nature to be so…sweet. Regardless, she puts up her staff and holds out a hand. When the spirit doesn't come she does not force it. Voices immediately overwhelm her as she watches the hustle and bustle of the city flash before her. All those years traveling alone along the vast desert of Southern Thanalan she heard many stories about the city, but had little reason herself to visit. Until now, she thinks, as she begins down the curved road leading towards her destination. "There's a group there who could help you," Raubahn had said as they share a drink in an unnamed tavern. "Strange lot if you ask me, but they know their way around a spell. Got decent hearts. You should have a look yourself." She looks down at her hands and the scars that take home there. Burns and frostbite alike freckle her fingertips. Her magic had been getting unruly as of late and she honestly wasn't sure how to handle it. She never did. If there was a group — these thaumaturges he would later call them — could help her finally control it, then maybe it was worth it. "Okay," she said. "Perhaps I'll make my way over soon." She approaches the imposing doors now and takes in a breath. She flexes her fingers, confused. Her magic was still yet something inside her stirs enough to make bumps along her skin.
