I've lived in Chicago and two Texas cities. I appreciate Mayor Brandon Johnson's comment: "the governor of Texas should be worried about Texas. Why are you all up in my business? Focus on Texas." Texas could start with its "unacceptably high maternal mortality rate (Dallas Morning News)."

...and while our populations of unhoused persons may include those suffering from addictions & mental illness, this country never recovered from Reagan's mass closures of psychatic care facilities. There's no "there" to recieve them. Goldstone's is the clearest explanation for another poor policy.

Here is a useful list US Senators considering their vote regarding H.R. 1. Some may have declared, some have stated they are still considering their position. Consider letting them where you stand.

I'm heartbroken. Sobule was wonderfully talented. Her partnerships with Richard Barone, Tom Morello, John Doe and others were precious. My heart goes out to her family, friends and the musical community at large. The organization I work with was preparing to host one of her very special shows.

"What a place! What a situation! What kind of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter." -Going Postal, Novel, 2004

Two poems in the April 6 TPA Quarterly. One asking questions of the oligarchy, another (Drama School) on memorizing words gone rogue from their ancient burrows. TPA supports the efforts of Feeding Texas. Image: from the First Folio, Shakespeare, 1623. www.texaspoetryassignment.org/texas-school...

From Gwendolyn Brooks:
The good man.
He is still enhancer, renouncer.
In the time of detachment,
in the time of the vivid heather and affectionate evil,
in the time of oral
grave grave legalities of hate - all real
walks our prime registered reproach and seal.
Our successful moral.
The good man.

When Pete Buttigieg, public speaker with the restraint of a Buddhist monk, says it this way, you know it's bad. Of course, you know it's bad. For a start: Hegseth should resign.

Love these. Somewhere between the state fair sideshow midway posters of my youth ("Awe to the Giant Jungle Rats-Savengers of the Battlefield!") and the Grand Guignol. You can actually commission an artist from Ghana to paint one. The Occultists...just sayin'.

What we do every day matters, in every state. 5 bills stopped in Colorado which sought to damage health protections for transgender youth/adults & reproductive care, including allowing insurers & medical providers to deny these life-saving services. They will keep trying, but We Won't Go Back.

Reminded today of Ariel's quote,The Tempest. Gathered some trolling takedowns relevant today:
Hell is empty & all the devils are here/
While you here do snoring lie, Open-eyed conspiracy
His time doth take/Is there more toil? Since thou dost give me pains/
Deal? Uh, more like 'Art of the Spiel'

Every day we'll hear acts of bravery, ringing truer than petty responses. Bishop Budde's plea in her offering for the Inaugural Service is one act of bravery. May we follow on behalf of all in fear for their lives and safety. From Henry IV: “the camomile grows faster the more it is trodden on“.

Sharing this, IMO, useful slide from Red Wine & Blue's call on Jan 19th. The organization hosted historian Heather Cox Richardson's observations. It helps me stay focused in this moment. The full hour video can be searched as "Keep Calm and Listen to Heather Cox Richardson"
