Oh, I see. Except “white” was never just skin tone. Colonial laws in Virginia and the 1790 U.S. Naturalization Act created ‘whiteness’ as a political category, not a neutral description. Even Irish and Italians weren’t always seen as white. That’s why I think we should abandon it.

Oh, I see. Except “white” was never just skin tone. Colonial laws in Virginia and the 1790 U.S. Naturalization Act created ‘whiteness’ as a political category, not a neutral description. Even Irish and Italians weren’t always seen as white. That’s why I think we should abandon it.
