Understanding the daily life and customs of your world is crucial. They affect characters' behaviors, traditions, and interactions.

Took a break over the holidays. Now that I'm back, I've wasted a few hours scrolling through baby names for characters. Not a great start I must admit.

What's your go-to writing distraction?

Worldbuilding on the first page is all about breadcrumbs. Don’t unload the entire history, just enough details to intrigue the reader.

A strange custom, an unusual setting, or a character’s reaction to something unique can do wonders.

Trust readers to piece it together! #amwriting #writingtips

Writing Tip:
Need more help on worldbuilding? Consider looking up those old 'travel around the world' TV shows that dive deep into a country and its history. There's a lot you can use there for your own fictional setting as well as fleshing out its history.

Naming things is wild—kids, pets, even house plants. But naming characters?

That’s next-level stress. I once named a character "Chongo" swahili for one eyed. 🤭 It worked though.

What’s the story behind your character's name?

I’m both a plotter and a pantser. I always start with a detailed plot. But then, mid-story, fresh ideas and wild plot twists sweep me away from my plan. Those surprises are what keeps me excited. What about you, are you a Plotter or pantser?"

Lost in dialogue?🤔

Think of it as a reveal for character motivation or advancing the plot. If it doesn't add anything, cut it!

Crisp, purposeful dialogue keeps readers engaged.
