Always enjoy giving a guest weather briefing in Synoptic Meteorology Lab! Great opportunity to also chat about the future trajectory of the NWS with the next generation of meteorologists.

Last night's weather balloon launch through a layer of dense cirrus was the catalyst for this question.

If the frost point was plotted, it'd be equal to the temperature within cirrus clouds. Instead, there is separation between the temperature and dew point.

We often say “a degree or two will make a difference” when it comes to winter weather.

This afternoon is perfect example with additional rainfall and temperatures in most locations above 32.0 °F. If we were ~2 to 3 °F colder, this second round would be very impactful!

Thankful for the great weather for the weather balloon launch earlier this evening--can't complain about 60s °F on Thanksgiving Day! 😉

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
