I’m chaperoning my son’s 5th grade field trip and while we’re on the bus a kid pointed out a cyber truck and a without a moment’s hesitation all of them loudly start booing.

Our kids are paying attention. They see what’s happening.

I just hope there’s enough earth left for when they grow up.

A Facebook post that reads, “I'm never on here and I know that the vast majority of people I'm friends with on here may be upset by this as alot of my fo friends are from when I was growing up in TX, but l'm done with making myself small for other people's comfort and trying to minimize my own opinions to make myself seem palatable to people. If seeing the people you love (but whose best interests and rights you actively voted against) feeling hurt, scared, and angry right now is making you feel a type of way, I invite you to sit with that and do some self reflection before you jump to combative defensiveness. It is unfair to ask people who are reeling and terrified to lose their rights to ease your conscience. It is unfair to ask the people who are impacted by this choice to tolerate your intolerance. If you had the ability to vote "just on economic policy" without worrying about your rights being at stake, that is privilege. If you don't feel scared or concerned that this is going to negatively impact you, that is privilege (or perhaps you have your blinders on). Historically, I was raised to not rock the boat and to be small. But I refuse to do that anymore because I am allowed to have opinions and beliefs and to take up space. As an Asian, bisexual woman and as a human with empathy for others, l'm scared. I'm terrified of what this means for myself, for my friends, and for countless other people out there. I am all about love and all about kindness, but do you think it's fair to ask someone who's human rights you've decided are ultimately not important enough to you to protect to just be comfortable with that? You put a price on human rights and you didn't think it was worth paying.” The rest of the Facebook post that reads, “I'm going to see if I can save my photos off here and then I'm going to deactivate because, like I said at the beginning, l'm never on here to begin with but even moreso now, scrolling this feed makes me angry and nauseous when I see so many people who I thought I knew and who I thought valued my life and the lives of others showing what's really important to them. If this doesn't apply to you, then you don't need to worry about it. If it does apply to you and you're itching to start an arguement, just know that l'm not interested in it. I'm tired, scared, and angry and I am not doing the emotional labor of engaging in those combative discussions where there is no intent to listen and really hear. I know a lot of people are going to get mad and unfriend me (that's okay, l'm deactivating soon anyway) but if someone speaking on how they're scared and hurt makes you immediately angry and defensive, that is something that you should probably sit with. I have to sit with the discomfort and fear of myself and so many others losing human rights, so you should be able to sit with the discomfort of the consequences of your actions. You are free to believe what you believe even if I disagree with it, but that doesn't mean that I have to agree with it or make space for it in my life.”
