We were asked to sign up for subjects that we passed simply by signing up. All to improve the "bums on seats" numbers is my guess. Offering meaningless "products" that look good but are unlikely to form a path to employment is criminal IMHO.

It has happened where I studied engineering. The answer to any complaints was a variation on "quit bitching, you'll get your degree".

Rough as it is they seem to be working it out 👍. I had to deal with a parent who spent years tapping a wedge in 😬.

I have South African friends that are volunteer fire fighters. They seem to be as active as their Australian colleagues. 🤷♂️

Likely not that dramatic. If the crew on orbit had to they'd use the spacecraft with the cracked window. If it broke they would be wearing suits designed for exactly that situation.
