Finally, the fearful part will be an attempt to re-establish the largely ineffective 2018 China Initiative. The most recent effort made it to the 2024 senate. So likely to see another wave of harm from racial profiling of Chinese students and professors rooted in protecting research security.

The hopeful part: Increase in visas for highly skilled STEM talent. H1B visas are valid for at least 3 years & have careful restrictions “to fill openings for which American workers with similar abilities cannot be found.”
