For decades, video games were not thought of as art. But in reality, modern gaming often encompasses all of the creative arts and combines them into a single medium.

That's why I'm calling 2025 The Year of the Video Game. Hate it or love it, in the 21st Century everyone is playing.

For decades, video games were not thought of as art. But in reality, modern gaming often encompasses all of the creative arts and combines them into a single medium.

While DC's Gotham IP is also in the midst of a renaissance ("Penguin", "The Batman" reboot) I'm betting on gaming for its meteoric rise and fervent fanbase.

TV adaptations changed that. "The Witcher", "Arcane", "The Last of Us" and "Fallout" all succeeded, where past attempts had failed. 

The "Super Mario Bros" film from 2023 was the second-highest grossing film of the year.

Gaming is already the largest sector of entertainment. Old news to many by now....
But over $400B is raked in annually by the industry. This eclipses both movies and music combined. What's traditionally sucked has been the quality on the big screen.

"Minecraft", "Mortal Kombat 2" and 
"Five Nights at Freddy's 2" are all releasing this year to an audience craving a reprieve from superhero blockbusters.

Soon the rich will be talking through glasses,
To a being so smart it won't kiss their asses.

Shortly thereafter a Clipper hits Europa,
The icy moon that could give us hope.

Of finding life-signs somewhere in our system,
But first we need peace, patience and wisdom.
