Tithe instead of both 3w Smotherthing Tithe *and* 1R Dockside in 2019 was probably a healthier commander meta in 2021
WoTC is knocking either way, I think

at the same time, I think printing 30 new eminence commanders would cause more damage than hybrid mana ever could, and they COULD do that at any time, and have chosen not to.

im also not convinced that changing the hybrid mana rules are a solution, but id like to see it explored.
Im not sure how to do that mind you, but commander is a format created by players messing about, so id like to see that first

My personal experience leans the other way: that the focus on punishment in the ruleset rather than encouragement might push people the other way

But thats a symptom of something else, and that other thing could be tackled with future hybrid design too

I mean I could swap to Elas Il Kor and basically not change that deck much at all.
But...would I?
Elas has acces to TefPro. And Farewell. And smothering tithe...

The fact that people WANT to play mono and dual colour commanders arent explained by the restrictions imposed by the rules: they COULD choose to play Jodah already.
The fact that they *arent* means that they're being driven by something else.

Or, at least, that it could be mitigated if they had access to hybrid mana, due to how it works with adding more pips i, but in a more flexible way

Generally I think you'd have to push those cards pretty far to make up for the fact that theyre so hard to cast, make up for the fact that you need to be mono coloured, or they'll just be ignored
Hybrid gives you knobs to twiddle

( BBBB is much harder to put in a dimir deck than 4H, and its totally useless in most draft environments for example.)

Easy if you're mono black, blue, or black/blue, but the most colours you add the harder it is for your lands to hit those specific pips (without enforcing that difficulty onto every format)

My question is which is being forced more by the current approach, I think?
