Basically the USA did it (or something similar) so, why can't we? From my perspective this is expected behaviour from National especially with Act and NZFirst on side.

It is equivalent to finger printing. That is, it can uniquely identify you and I don't like the idea of them selling that info to third parties. Or it being leeked to criminal organisations. Etc.

That will have costs to business, education and other sectors with increase in fraud and just general con-man/con-woman stuff. People finding their way into jobs that they can't handle, are ill qualified for. Not to mention phishing and other such activities. Requires a competent government...

It maybe obvious now but this fraud will only get more convincing. And as for the "making us dumber" argument. I would say that it is more like, it is easier now, more than ever, to put very little effort into some work other than the laborious manual tasks.

Many technologies that have been called AI are now just Computer Science algorithms. What makes this current AI so insidious is the fabrication of ideas. That is, creating photos, videos, voice, music, etc. that can fool people into thinking it is real, was created by a human.

AI has some legitimate uses though. I stress "Some." Shoe horning AI into everything is a bubble that will burst, like previous AI bubbles.

Technically AI has never "gone away" even in previous AI bubbles. If tech is useful it finds its niche. Artificial neural networks have been around for more than a decade but weren't exactly practical until massively parallel computing became accessible to the wider public/internet.
