But back in those days, flying was only for the relatively wealthy. The Syd-Melb flight would have cost close to your week's wages. To get this much room & quality of service today, you'd be paying 1st Class fares, at bare minimum. A very small market for that. @phillysky.bsky.social

Yeah, I think it kinda feels like we're still using Beta platform, not the final version. Hence the need (still) for 'invitation codes'. This is definitely still a 'testing phase' of the platform.
Really annoying the thread conversations together.

Mmm, but Samhain & Halloween are different.
The 1st is Pagan, the latter is Christian.
And yes, whilst I've happily celebrated Halloween when I've been living in Northern Hemisphere, I refuse to do it here. Mainly cos no-one knows what it's about, & have bastardized it.

Interesting limitation of this platform is that when you reply to a reply, you're only replying to the immediate post - the OP gets dropped off. Quite annoying, really, to have to manually copy in the OP, 2 or 3 replies down. Do you find this same issue? Or am I doing something wrong?

Yes, well, the teachers obviously have no clue. The downside of a largely agnostic population, not knowing the religious/Church origins of many of these things. And yes, I took the liberty of defusing the potential anti-USA argument to save time. Have copied @bastardsheep.bsky.social into this now.

It's definitely a thing in Ireland, Scotland, & EU. Most people think it's just USA, but it was exported to there from Europe with settlers. But yes, it's a Church Calendar thing, related to Christmas, & the Advent. Not Autumn/Spring etc.

But, there's no Southern Hemisphere equivalent. It's a Christian celebration of All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day, set according to the Church Calendar. These were all set down well before the Southern Hemisphere was 'discovered', it's not a seasonal celebration, it's a Church thing. And it's NOT USA.

Your 'tour' sounds great! I;m enjoying catching the random snippets... Have fun! 🤗

Hmmm... what specific seasonal events are you talking about? The Solstices are still the solstices, just Winter/Summer opposing, so no biggie. Christmas..? Thanksgiving is all about the harvest, but that's uniquely northern hemisphere: US/Canada/China.. I'm genuinely curious what has your goat.
