My son Mark (in jeans) donated a kidney at Stanford to an unknown recipient. The recipient (center), who thought he was near his end after 4 years of waiting, reached out to him & now they're besties. Stanford has them speak to med students every 6 months.

Jonathan Foley's Stanford speech: "🥩 is the most polluting substance you and I will ever touch with our bare hands, pretty much."

Fascinating story in @nymag.com about how America's obsession with protein is taking us down the path of more processed food. 🤨 Since protein isolates don't taste good, we add sugar and flavoring to compensate. And protein isolates aren't exactly nutrient dense...

Not a private candid moment for me. January's numbers are oh my God terrifying to earth scientists.

My new favorite dietary guidelines: Spain. 🇪🇸 They took into account the environment, so 🥩 went off the plate.

We asked scientists from Japan, Norway, Canada and the U.S. about their food guides. 🥙 Canada submitted their answers in writing, so we needed an authentic Canadian to represent them on Camera. Found one.

The American Dietary Guidelines Committee released their report yesterday. So much info in one table. ✍️ Seems in line with the >100 other country guidelines around the world: less 🥩, more 🫘🥬🍎.

The happiest country on earth (Finland) just joined the parade of countries revising their food guidelines: less meat, more fruit & veggies. We interviewed a Norwegian scientist yesterday who helped revise their guidelines. She was fascinating, will post that interview next month.

My buddy Henry Blackburn is about to turn 100 and still plays in his band. 🎷 So far, he'll be the 3rd of his team of 17 nutrition scientists to live past 100. What are the odds? I asked that question to Google's AI.

It did it's binomial distribution thing and came up with 1 in 10 Billion. 😲

Well, the good news is countries that outlive us and have lower health care costs do rely on science, so if RFK and Nina corrupt our guidelines, we can rely on some great alternatives.

Switzerland is one of the longest-lived countries with some of the best scientists, and they just revised their dietary guidelines. Where's the beef?

My 40-something son donated a slice of his liver to a dying baby girl. The once-desperate parents sent him a video to show that she's now thriving. The surgeon said he was thrilled to see that Mark's liver was smooth and dark red, "clearly from someone living a clean lifestyle."
