We found little support for caffeine’s ergogenic effects using the largest sample compared to previous studies (average N ~11, ours is 36!).

Although many authors state their images were captured in a standardized and constant manner, we show how varying three basic elements of portrait photography (Focal length, lighting setup, and background colors) can affect the outcome when not disclosed in detail.

Frequently, articles are rather vague about how their photos were taken, missing important details that may cause heterogeneity in findings, hindering replication and comparison.

Good methods should closely resemble cooking recipes—a clear and precise list of ingredients and steps to follow to achieve an outcome (repeatably). But that is seldom the case.

In this piece, we combine #methodology, #cooking, and #photography as we look at the state of methods reporting on image acquisition in face research.
