You guys ever impressed by how many computations a computer can do?

I'll accidentally add an extra 0 on the end of an N in N^2 computation, and my computer is just like "Ok just gimmi another few seconds", and generates 2,300,000 parts, and simulates 14,400,000 erosion particles.

Why's every modern product have to market itself like a cult?

Cut this shit out. No, I don't want a free T-shirt with my first time order. Just make a good product please

This is an internet meme about an incomprehensible monster putting on a mask for human appeal, representing how AIs can be approachable yet we know little of their power, intent, or how they even work.

In hindsight, it is fatally self-luminous for an AI to send me on this journey to begin with.

In the end, the beautiful phrase "fatally self-luminous" is simply a misquote by the google AI summary.

The phrase that intrigued me, turned out to be made up. I feel sad and let down.

But taking a step back, I can also appreciate the full circle here.

Lucky enough, the shoggoth summary sites it's sources with a little link button, right next to the description with the captivating phrase. It's a link to wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoggoth

And on the wiki page, you can find the true direct quote: "faintly self-luminous"

I put "fatally self-luminous" into google and was surprised to see that it has ZERO results. How could that be?!

To check that I wasn't misremembering, I googled "what is a shoggoth", just as I had in the morning. There it was, I got the same summary with "fatally self-luminous" right in my face.

Fatally self-luminous

What does it mean? It has a beautiful irony to it, like "hopeless romantic."

I pondered it a bit
(knowledge is it's own demise?)
(glows bright enough to kill itself?)
but carried on with my day.

The phrase stuck with me though, because later that night I did more digging...
