I think Celestia and luna were young enough that they didn't fully absorb or learn their cultures traditions before the society fell apart. That's why Celestia isn't evil, I just think subconsciously she still remembers how alicorn society was and unintentionally made Equestria a nation of expansion

So why do the only two remaining alicorns who could remember the ancient alicorn society so heavily favor unicorns, I believe because the ancient alicorns had a caste system that put them on top as gods. I think unicorns happened to be next in rank in the caste because they could do many jobs.

I have a theory about alicorns in my little pony because as much as opaline is a stupid villain in gen five she revealed something really interesting about alicorns and Celestia. They both heavily favoritism towards unicorns, Celestia with her school for unicorns and opaline and Misty.
