Geology is an amazing thing...

I found this very smooth, slightly pink rock, sticking out of some pebbles on Dritvík beach on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, surrounded by completely different rock types (basically black lava). So bizarre, so wonderful.

More northern lights from my first night up in the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in mid-Feb. Oh, and a little Milky Way there too :)

Pink, yellow and green northern lights brighten up the sky over a snow-capped volcano and a pointy black mountain on the right. The Milky Way comes down diagonally, just visible beneath the aurora.

Sometimes the sea can be a very strange colour, like here at Fellsfjara in October.

I also sometimes wonder whether anyone else has visited this beach as many times as me. I have been there so many times it's quite ridiculous!

Slowed exposure time makes breaking waves seem smooth. The sea is a strange golden brown from the reflection of weird light in the sky. A turquoise iceberg sits in the middle, with some of the scalloped patterns on the surface visible. A weird mix of brown, white and turquoise in the photo.

Oh it's time for another iceberg! Posted a few of this one already. It was magnificent. #Iceland
A large turquoise iceberg sits on a black sand beach, with a tiny one in front. Long exposure slows the waves around it down so they're a bit smoother. The big iceberg has some amazing scallop patterns in the surface and the whole thing looks a bit like a fish, or something. There is some sunlight over the scene and a pale brown sky.

I don't usually show much scale on my photos of icebergs and bergy bits/growlers (the smaller ones), so here are some people in the distance on the other side of the little river where the icebergs come out to give an idea of scale.

Sunrise light on a snow-covered volcano (Snaefellsjökull). It is almost mid-winter and the light is intensely pink. There are zigzagging shadows going up to the summit. At the bottom there is some grass showing.
