The ICC relies on States’ cooperation to arrest and surrender ICC suspects.

Today, a total of 8️⃣ public warrants in relation to the situation in #Libya remain outstanding and a total of 32 public warrants against 31 individuals, in all ICC situations.

In a statement, @hrw.org notes that by shielding alleged war criminals such as Almasri from accountability before the #ICC, Italy’s actions send a negative message to victims that political interests take precedence over prospects of justice.

When asked about the release of Mr Njeem by Italy, a Representative of the European Commission recalled that all EU member states are members of the ICC and as such must abide by their Rome Statue obligations, including cooperating with the Court.
